What is the Gospel?
The Gospel begins with God, who is perfectly holy, just, and loving, the righteous Creator of all things. His perfect standard, revealed in His law, requires absolute obedience. However, Man, who were created in God's image, fell into sin through disobedience, resulting in spiritual death, separation from God, and a corrupted nature. Every person since Adam and Eve is born into this sinful condition, unable to meet God's standard or earn salvation, and therefore deserving of His just wrath and eternal judgment.
Yet, God in His love provided the solution through His Son. Jesus, fully God and fully man, lived a sinless life and perfectly fulfilled God's law. He then went to the cross, where He died a substitutionary death, bearing the penalty for our sins, satisfying God's justice, and reconciling us to Him. His resurrection from the dead three days later confirms His victory over sin and death, validating His claims and guaranteeing eternal life for those who believe.
The necessary Response to this good news is repentance—a change of mind and heart about sin, turning away from self-reliance—and faith—trusting in Jesus Christ alone for salvation. When we respond with genuine faith and repentance, God forgives our sins, declares us righteous, gives us new life through the Holy Spirit, and adopts us into His family, beginning a lifelong journey of growing in Him.
